Liz Downey, LCSW, MBA

(she/her)

I've always had a passion for working with people. I received both my Bachelor's and Master's degree in Social Work from Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri. I began working with clients immediately upon graduating and have since worked in various social service settings in caseworker, therapist, and administrator roles. My therapeutic experience includes working with those experiencing depression, anxiety, severe persistent mental illness, substance use disorders, dissociation, survivors of sexual violence, and survivors of human trafficking. I have a deep passion for working with persons who have experienced trauma.

I believe that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing and recovery and strive to walk alongside my clients as they begin to make changes in their lives. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is hallmark to the process and I incorporate trauma-focused modalities into all of my work. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Ego-State (Parts) Work, and Motivational Interviewing. I am an EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDR Approved Consultant.

My style as a therapist is relational, and I try to bring this style into my consultation. I work to understand more about the therapist as a person - clinical interests, learning style, and window of tolerance - to assist in developing a learning plan tailored to your clinical goals. I enjoy working with both new and seasoned clinicians on developing their own clinical and leadership skills and becoming confident in using them.

I went back to school to pursue my Masters is Business Administration from the University of Missouri - St. Louis with a goal to build sustainable trauma-informed settings. I enjoy using my MBA lens to understand how our systems, organizations, and communities impact healing.

When I'm not working, you can usually find me exploring the outdoors - from adventuring in the mountains, paddling in a lake, or tending to my garden.
